The Soundproofist mission
The idea for Soundproofist came from writing an informal blog called Soundproofing for Urban People back in 2009. The urban blog was inspired by my need to solve noise problems that I encountered in my ridiculously thin-walled apartment. It was a collection of relatively inexpensive noise-reduction hacks that I’ve done myself, and others that I found online. With Soundproofist, I wanted to take those interests further by talking to experts about sonic and social issues. And I believe this knowledge — as I uncover it — should be shared.
In addition, I love music — I’ve produced over 100 chillout music podcasts (starting in 2006) and several compilation albums, always on the lookout for sonically pleasing musical soundscapes that enhance our ability to relax and/or focus.
Phill Hermans came to Soundproofist with a background as a musician and an acoustic ecologist, having lived on both sides of the noise spectrum. He brings more environmental issues to the forefront.
Soundproofist is on a quest to find trustworthy, holistic, and “independent” solutions, and to learn from experts. Our pursuits go beyond home repairs.
Most noise issues affect the human psyche. They’re political, socioeconomic, environmental, and psychological. Noise can be a power struggle. It creates conflict. Conversely, acoustics is an art. And learning what makes acoustics sound great is a skill that each of us can learn.
So that’s the Soundproofist mission. I want us to solve noise issues together — whether the noise is in your walls or in the environment around us. We have options, even though they’re not always obvious.
How can we help you?
Are you a musician? A restaurant worker? Do you have loud neighbors? What about traffic noise? Are you concerned about the impact of noise on wildlife? Let’s find the experts who can answer our questions…let’s talk to experts who know how to make an impact. And we can learn more about acoustics and sound along the way.
